JACK DURLING
Rooted in a childhood spent among the wild landscapes of Dungeness, Jack Durling's hand-built ceramic sculptures pay homage to the animal kingdom in extraordinary detail. Working from his Brighton studio, he draws on the textures and rhythms of the natural world — from the wildlife of the South Downs on his doorstep to endangered species across the globe — to create pieces that are as much a quiet conservation message as they are a work of art. His distinctive use of lustres and intricate surface decoration gives each sculpture a life of its own, reflecting a practice shaped by over two decades of craft. An alumnus of the Craft Council, whose permanent collection features his work, Jack has exhibited widely across the UK and teaches at West Dean College of Art and Craft. His creations have appeared in the Amazon series The Power and across six seasons of The Great Pottery Throw Down.
