Born in Danvers, Massachusetts in 1966, Trish Coonrod knew from a young age that she would be an artist. She majored in painting at Washington University in St. Louis, and later at The New York Academy of Art, where she graduated with honors. Shortly after graduating from the Academy she took a job in the studio of Jeff Koons where she worked as a lead painter for 8 years. She now resides in Ithaca New York with her husband and two children.
For the past several years Trish has focused on still life painting. Her subject matter is often fruit with other objects sometimes included bringing additional shapes and colors to the composition. She likes painting fruit because it's a colorful natural form, and each piece of fruit is unique and can imply gesture and personality. Also, fruit is slowly but surely decomposing, making each painting a race against time in which she is attempting to make a lasting record of something temporary.
“What I ultimately strive for is to create a space that I believe in, that people feel they can go into. And feel like it’s an inviting place to be.”
